Evaluation Criteria for Wordpress Development

Wordpress is a powerful blog software written in PHP that allows individuals to run their own online blog. The software is capable of using plug-ins and templates which makes it a strong choice for both professionals and users who are learning to run their own websites. Web developers create plug-ins that add additional functionality to the blog and designers create unique templates and graphics for use on the Wordpress platform.

Our evaluation criteria focuses on the important aspects of web development with Wordpress that are required in order to develop a functional Wordpress plug-in or theme. Each of these evaluation criterion are based on our research and understanding of the Wordpress platform.

The first aspect of our evaluation focuses on a vendor’s design standards.  We assess the standards set by each vendor prior to the design process. Are the standards set to yield a better finished product? How does the vendor ensure that the standards have been met within each project?

Design quality is another important aspect that is reviewed. Is the finished product high quality? Does the vendor pay attention to detail in the themes and make each section of the site appear to flow together?

Next we focus on the development quality based on comparisons to applications developed by other agencies and the expectations of the consumer. We review the different stages of development including planning and direct communication with the customer.

Code security, the fourth criterion, looks into the ability for a vendor to build a website that is free of exploitable code and defects that allow unauthorized access to areas of the website that are supposed to be secure.

The evaluation of the services provided by a vendor is based on our input from both past and present clients of each vendor.
