Job Description:
The Application Support Group ASG DBASA will work as part of a team with system administrators to deliver production COTS solutions for the OSC. The DBA will be working in production environments as well as developmenttest environments, evaluating, installing, upgrading, and configuring databases. The DBA will lead database architecture, design, data analysis, and data loading for several COTS applications, utilizing in-depth database engineering principles to design and deliver effective data solutions. hj M
Required Skills
Designs logical and physical databases andor reviews description of changes to database design to understand how changes affect the physical database.
Tests and corrects errors and refines changes to optimize database performance.
Confers with co-workers to determine impact of database changes and provides level of effort estimates to manager for making changes to database for all project efforts.
Performs database tuning to increase processing performance, and closely monitors usage, storage space, and other influences on database performance.
Executes ad-hoc queries and generate reports for users, required monthly reports for the manager, and any others upon request in a timely manner.
Researches and investigates problems and develops viable solutions reports findingsrecommendations clearly and effectively to team.
Designs and executes database backup and recovery procedures including disaster recovery.
Configures and maintains SQL jobs.
Creates and modifies stored procedures as data sources for application and reports.
Provides technical input for creation of policies, procedures, and associated documentation. Works with the SSSBusiness Analyst to record all routine procedures and update appropriate documentation as needed.
Provides level of effort estimates to manager for project efforts.
Provides day-to-day technical and functional expertise for all applications supported.
System upgrade and maintenance, including installation and configuration of Windows operating systems, administration of user accounts, and maintenance of system security posture.
Maintain system security and patch levels.
System performance tuning, data recovery, DRBC, etc.
Install and upgrade system software, applications, and databases.
Create, maintain, and restore data backups.
Provide technical input for policies and procedures, maintain accurate documentation on those policiesprocedures Assists System Administrators with daily support requests.
Desired Skills
SQL Server 20052008 applied experience 3 years
Experience upgrading from SQL 2005 to 2008
SQL Reporting Services required
PLSQL and T-SQL expertise
SQL tuning expertise
Experience and knowledge of Windows operating systems necessary
Knowledge and experience with Visual Basic .NET, Extensable Markup Language XML, Web Services
Experience with DB2 server, SharePoint Portal Server 2007, and IBM Rational Suite a plus
Strong customer service and consultation skills
Works with highly diverse teams of technicians, managers, and customers to fulfill contract requirements
Education
Requires a Bachelors degree or equivalent
Experience
6-8 years of related experience
3 years SQL Server experience or 7 years experience in related discipline andor formal training in SQL Server or equivalent work experience.
1 years as a Windows Server System Administrator
